Why this matters.
99 percent of women are catcalled.
Catcalls are not jokes. Catcalls are not compliments. They are invasive and violating and can be life-threatening, especially for trans* women and women of color. Women should not have to hide under baggy clothing or cross the street to avoid potential harassers, nor should they live silently with the consequences that harassment presents. This project provides a platform for women to challenge catcalls by empowering them to respond via video submissions. (Cat)Call and Response aims to transform the way we think about street harassment. We have work to do. It’s time to respond.
